The costumes are based on designs of Brazil and Angola, Luanda. It is about Zumbi, from"Quilombo dos Palmares" - the legend of the King of Angola Janga, a brave
slave from Brazil and, Iemanjá and Olokun, gods of the ocean waters.

The focus is on an authentic Brazilian/African theme, simple, elegant, yet
Rustic showing off Kim and Brent's athletic physiques. The use of cowry shells,
which are considered the mouthpieces of the Orixás (spiritual gods) –
divination is significant to this form of dance.
Brent's belt is hand made and decorated with cowry shell rings along with
The warrior breastplate and arm bands. Brent's wrist band appliqués are stylized
fish scales made of Swarovski crystals. The belt has hanging short links of
hand perforated cowry shells, sewn with special waxed thread so we don’t
have problems with them breaking and falling. Swarovski crystals were added
to his belt to reflect light. On Brent's pants, elastic gatherings in three
places add an element of style and movement. Brent's leather headpiece
was designed to add a rustic, warrior flavor to this ensemble.
The front section is made of leather accented with cowry shells and
Swarovski crystals. It was made with leather strips which were hand sewn
with special thread to add style and movement. This light, creative and
comfortable headpiece is one of a kind. It was carefully designed not to
slide, fall or break. Brent's necklace is made of natural African coconut
chips from which a wooden hand carved Brazilian amulet called a "Figa"
hangs.

Brent Brommentre's original ice dance headpiece
Kim's costume is decorated with waves of the sea, cowry shell appliqués and
fish scales created with Swarovski crystals in silver/blue tones
representing the Iemanjá ocean colors. Cowry shells were also added as
accent. Her tribal belt has more fish scales designed with Swarovski
crystals in sea tones, cowry shell all around and a cowry shell ring with
fine fabric flaps made of blue tones. Her hand made hair accessories have cowry shells, crystals and rhinestones. Her blue and green fabric represents the spirit of water, the medium to which Brent and Kim have dedicated this artistic and creative endeavor.
In his journey from BRAZIL to ANGOLA, Zumbi prays to Iemanjá and Olokun to
bring him back to Angola/ Luanda so he can rest his soul.
Alex's song can be also interpreted as one finding his own true identity by
going inside of oneself.
Luanda is by the sea, guarded by Olokun, god of the deep seas and Iemanjá,
the divinity of the sea and loving mother of mankind. The same ocean unites
Brazil and Angola. Kim and Brent exemplify the power of these two amazing
Orixás (Orixás), which are referred to as one kindred energy.
